Hello from the USA!
I recently started restoring a 916 that I purchased at an auction a few months ago. The engine is in relatively decent shape, just was filled with water when i took it apart. Most parts are cleaning up nicely. Its impressive how large all of the parts are! The flywheels were very tricky to get off.
The piston however, is quite badly scored. The cylinder looks to be OK but might need a quick hone to clean up the bore. I'm tempted to just put new rings on the piston and leave it alone. The engine will likely never do hard work again so I don't think the scoring will really hurt anything. Thoughts?
It is motor number 1266415. That seems to be after 1944 but nothing I've found gives me an exact date. Does anyone know when it was made?
Also, will the MANN BFU 707 filter fit this engine? See picture of the filter housing.
Also, its been pretty interesting trying to learn German while sorting through the manual. Google translate is amazing!
Thanks for any help!
